Information International Associates Turns to Teneros for 24X7 Email Continuity and Data Protection

IT services firm cites secure email and elimination of corrupt data as key reasons for choosing Teneros

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIF. — June 2, 2008 — Teneros today announced that IT services firm Information International Associates Inc. has chosen the Teneros Application Continuity Appliance™ for high availability of Microsoft® Exchange to assure 24X7 email continuity for the company’s 190 employees.

Owned and operated by information scientists, Information International Associates (also known as IIa) provides information technology services, open-source intelligence research and analysis, library and information center management, policy development and strategic planning, and military personnel systems management to government agencies. Customers include the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Department of Defense, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and the U.S. Geological Survey.

Key purchase drivers
Aaron Myers, IIa senior business systems analyst, said the company chose Teneros for two key reasons:

  1. Security: IIa works with government agencies that have strict policies regarding the origin of in-bound email, so having an Exchange server and the Teneros appliance on-site adds an extra layer of security that a hosted environment cannot offer.
  2. Elimination of corrupt data: IIa had corrupt data on its Exchange server that it simply needed to fix. The Teneros appliance has proprietary technology that prevents corrupt data from being replicated to the mail store on the Teneros appliance.  Therefore, the Teneros appliance prevents corrupt data from being copied to the server after an outage.

“Email is a primary form of communication and it is also where we maintain attachments, conversations, calendars and contact information,” Myers said. “So when we’re disconnected from email, we’re disconnected from the world and, most importantly, from our customers. We’ve also had problems with corrupt data, so we need a solution that not only provides continuous, secure email operations, but tackles the data corruption issue too. We looked at other options, but Teneros is clearly the best we have found, and the way it handles corrupt data is the icing on the cake. As soon as we installed the Teneros appliance, we were immediately able to clean up our database during regular business hours, and we can do our Exchange maintenance during business hours as well, all with zero downtime. It’s worked out great.”

Teneros Transaction Integrity Validation™ technology checks email data before and after replication, preventing Exchange data corruption from being duplicated on the Teneros Application Continuity Appliances. Legacy continuity solutions for Microsoft Exchange 2003 and 2007 that use disk, block, or file-level replication cannot prevent Exchange server email data corruption from being duplicated.

“We understand how critical it is to provide 99.999% email uptime; however, security and prevention of data corruption are equally important aspects of effective application continuity,” said Ben Petro, Teneros CEO. “For security purposes, many companies require their Exchange server to be on site; yet, they may not have IT resources to manage the data quality. When the Exchange data becomes corrupt, lengthy downtime is the result. Teneros appliances address both of these critical issues while ensuring continuous email uptime.”
