Law Firm Gunderson Dettmer Reports 500 Days of Continuous Email Uptime
Zero Downtime With Teneros’ Application Continuity Appliances for Microsoft® Exchange
Orlando, Fla. (ILTA, BOOTH # 814) —Aug. 20, 2007— Teneros reported today that it has provided Gunderson Dettmer with 500 days of email continuity since the firm installed a Teneros Application Continuity Appliances for Microsoft® Exchange nearly two years ago.
Close, constant and time-sensitive contact with its clients—primarily via email—is extremely important to the law firm of Gunderson Dettmer, whose client roster includes entrepreneurs, emerging growth companies and venture capitalists. A single Microsoft® Exchange Server supports the email boxes of nearly 250 attorneys and staff at the firm’s offices in Silicon Valley, New York, San Diego and Boston, serving desktop computers, laptops, and 90 mobile devices nationwide.
“Our relationships with our clients are the heart of our practice, and reliable email is a vital component of that,” said Eric Rosenberg, CIO. “Downtime, whether planned or unplanned, can damage our reputation, and our reputation is priceless. We needed a reliable email continuity solution to support our client services and business operations, and that’s exactly what Teneros has given us for the past 500 days.”
Affordability, ease of use and mobile component cited as key factors in purchase decision
Before choosing Teneros, Rosenberg looked at clustering solutions and at one point had a fully redundant Exchange server located in Boston in case of an emergency. But the majority of continuity options he investigated were too complex and too expensive, and not all provided 24X7 uptime. “Teneros is just a cleaner solution all the way around,” he said. “Plus it is unique because it works seamlessly with all the other applications connected to our Exchange server, such as our email archiving system. The way Teneros handles the Exchange environment essentially replaces the Exchange server during planned or unplanned outages, so the other applications don’t recognize the difference. It’s like magic.”
Rosenberg added that by protecting mobile access to email, Teneros provided a key element that some other continuity solutions don’t provide. “Being assured that our employees have reliable access to their email while they are away from the office is critical for us, and not all continuity solutions address that aspect of the puzzle,” he said.
Rosenberg’s team used to conduct quarterly maintenance in the middle of the night or on weekends, but with the Teneros appliance, it is now possible for the team to perform Microsoft® Exchange Server maintenance during regular work hours instead of the middle of the night or weekends, and they do it more frequently.
“Today’s law firms simply cannot function without reliable email, and their busy IT staffs cannot constantly worry about the threat of downtime,” said Steve Lewis, Teneros CEO. “Gunderson Dettmer was one of our early customers, and we’re proud to report that since our appliance was installed, we’ve provided 100 percent email continuity for everyone who works there, day in and day out.”
All Teneros Application Continuity Appliances for high availability and disaster recovery of Microsoft® Exchange Server offer 99.999-percent uptime utilizing the company’s Instant-On™ failover technology. Teneros appliances require no configuration of, modification to, or additional software on the Exchange Server or network infrastructure and can be installed in approximately 20 minutes. The appliances are remotely monitored, maintained and updated from Teneros Network Operations Center, so no additional IT burden is imposed on customers, and the appliances use transactional integrity validation—Teneros’ proprietary, real-time data verification technology—to prevent Exchange data corruption on Teneros appliances. The cost of the appliances is comparable to that of a provisioned Exchange Server.
“Teneros recently received the 2007 Microsoft® Partner of the Year Award for OEM Hardware, Device Manufacturing,” said Norm Thomas, director of business development for Microsoft’s U.S. Professional Services Group. “The company earned this award for developing an email continuity solution that is a simple-to-use, plug-and-go appliance. It's well-suited for today's successful law firms that rely on Microsoft® Exchange Server-based email for their business communications.”
The 2007 Microsoft® Partner of the Year Awards were presented in a number of categories, with winners chosen from a pool of more than 1,800 entrants worldwide. The OEM Hardware Solutions, Device Manufacturing Partner of the Year award is designed to recognize independent hardware vendors or original device manufacturers that design and develop hardware peripheral and device solutions that use Microsoft® technologies to create superior customer value. Teneros also received its second consecutive AlwaysOn Top 100 Private Companies Award that recognizes technical innovation.
